Apostolic Carmel Girls’ Secondary School was officially inaugurated in 1996 by the late Blessed Maurice Cardinal Otunga. The school was established by the Sisters of the Apostolic Carmel to extend their long tradition of Catholic education in Nairobi and is located in Buruburu Phase V.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The school operated as a day school from 1996 until 2007, serving families in Buruburu and nearby neighbourhoods. In 2007 the school converted to a boarding model to accommodate students from a wider geographic area and to strengthen formation and academic focus.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The school is located on a campus next to The Blessed Sacrament Church, Buruburu Phase 3, and maintains a close partnership with the parish: students attend Sunday Eucharistic celebrations at the church and participate in parish activities. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Principals: Over the years the school has been guided by five principals, each contributing to its academic growth, pastoral care, and infrastructure development. Their leadership has overseen the school’s transition from day to boarding, the expansion of facilities, and the strengthening of academic programmes and co‑curricular offerings.
School governance: The Apostolic Carmel Sisters provide spiritual and strategic oversight, working with a school board and parent‑teacher body to ensure accountability, sound policy, and continuous improvement.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our K.C.S.E. data shows a clear upward trend in school mean from 6.12 in the year 2006 to 9.32 in the year 2016, demonstrating steady academic improvement over that period. I’ve preserved the year-by-year means and the trend-line for use in reports and the website.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Academic programme: The school offers a balanced secondary curriculum focused on strong core subjects, critical thinking, and preparation for national examinations. Teachers emphasize both knowledge and the habits of disciplined study.
Boarding life: As a boarding school, Apostolic Carmel provides a structured daily routine that balances study time, recreation, liturgy, and pastoral care. Boarding life fosters independence, peer support, and a close-knit school community.
Co‑curricular activities: Students participate in sports, music, drama, debate, and community service projects—opportunities that develop leadership, teamwork, and creativity.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spiritual activities such as retreats and formation sessions — are historically supported by the Parish Priests, the Vincentian Priests and Brothers and the Apostolic Carmel Sisters — have been a regular part of the school calendar, reinforcing Catholic identity and service.
