📘 Dual Academic Pathways

1. 8-4-4 System (Form 3 & 4)

  • The 8-4-4 system, Kenya’s long-standing curriculum, is followed by students in Form 3 and Form 4.
  • It emphasizes subject mastery, national examinations, and preparation for KCSE.
  • Students are trained in core subjects such as Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, and the 3 Sciences, alongside electives like Business Studies, Geography, History, C.R.E. and Computer Studies.
  • The focus is on academic rigor, discipline, and examination readiness, ensuring learners are well-prepared for university entry or professional training.

2. Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) (Grade 10)

  • Grade 10 students follow the CBE system, which is Kenya’s new educational framework.
  • CBC emphasizes skills, creativity, values, and practical application of knowledge rather than rote learning.
  • Learners engage in projects, inquiry-based learning, and continuous assessment, fostering critical thinking and adaptability.
  • The curriculum integrates life skills, digital literacy, and community service, aligning with modern educational goals and global standards.

🎓 Integration at Apostolic Carmel

  • By offering both systems simultaneously, the school bridges tradition and innovation.
  • Form 3 & 4 students continue with the established 8-4-4 pathway, while Grade 10 students pioneer the CBC approach.
  • This dual structure demonstrates the school’s commitment to academic excellence and adaptability, ensuring that all learners receive quality education tailored to their stage.
  • Teachers are trained to balance the demands of both systems, providing structured guidance, mentorship, and support for smooth transitions.
